China overtakes Japan as world's second-biggest economy.

2011, February 14

China has outpaced Japan to become the world's second-largest economy, a title Japan has held for more than 40 years. China had leapfrogged Germany as the third largest economy already in 2007. Japan's nominal GDP was $5.4742tn in 2010, less than China's total of $5.8786tn, according to official data released by Japan. China is now also the world's leading car market and the biggest consumer of energy.
