Number of Internet Users per 100 of Population, 2010

Source: International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Statistics Database

This chart indicates, how far back India and China still are in the use of modern communication technology. Far less then 10% of India's population has access to the Internet, and only about 35% of China's population - as compared to 80% of the population in the United States of America.

Contrary to popular belief, particularly in the US, the United States is not the most Internet-connected population of the world. There are many European populations which have significantly better access to the Internet than the population in the United States. In Sweden, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway and Iceland more than 90% of the Population has (usually high-speed) access to the Internet.
